HDR is looking for a Senior Rail Engineer who will be a key player in the continued growth of HDR's freight rail program. This position may be based out of any of the following HDR offices: Atlanta, Charlotte, or Raleigh. The freight rail network is a vital link in our national and global supply chain markets. The work of the Senior Rail Engineer will result in critical infrastructure for the sustainable movement of goods and people, such as redefining freight mobility at historic bottlenecks or siding projects improving network capacity. They will be expected to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment where team members are encouraged to shape their work roles to their strengths and interests. On a day-to-day basis, we'll count on you to:
* Serve as Project, Discipline or Task Lead for railroad/civil engineering design projects and other offices to support the Freight Rail market sector and other market sectors as needed
* Support Project Managers by leading or participating in marketing and contracting activities
* Manage scope, budget, and schedule, as well as development of design criteria, specifications, project guides, project meeting notes, and cost estimating activities
* Perform freight railroad and/or civil engineering/design planning, analysis, and design aspects of freight rail and rail-related transportation projects
* Lead and/or perform detailed QC reviews of projects
* Support Project Managers by leading, or participating in client and stakeholder visits, site visits, field assessments, and construction inspections as needed
* Attend industry events and represent HDR as needed
* Mentor younger staff and support technical development
* Supervise junior staff performance of engineering tasks
* Work across industries with rail, industrial, terminal, utility, agency, DOT, port, transit, and other industry clients
* Provide leadership across technical disciplines
