About the role

Position Description:

The Wastewater Treatment Technician is responsible for carrying out routine operational and maintenance, as well as environmental and safety duties as assigned. This position requires an ability to follow instructions consistently and to communicate effectively so that all activities are aligned with the desires of the Operations Supervisor and Covanta Environment Solutions.

This is a 2nd Shift Position: 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM

Responsibilities:

  • Complete work sheets and forms clearly and consistently.
  • Gather and assist with evaluating samples (as assigned).
  • Assist and/or manage the offloading of waste streams and chemical treatment products.
  • Assist and/or manage bulk chemical transfers.
  • Load and unload bulk tankers.
  • Maintain a clean work area.
  • Perform cleanings of wastewater process equipment (as assigned).
  • Monitor the operation of all wastewater processing equipment.
  • Maintain the operational performance of the wastewater equipment.
  • Identify and report operating anomalies to the Operations Supervisor or Maintenance Department.
  • Direct and assist with the operation of the sludge transfer and dewatering systems.
  • Conduct basic laboratory tests to evaluate wastewater samples, as directed.

Requirements:

  • Grade 1 Biological Operator - Wastewater certification preferred.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule. Will include overtime and staggered work schedules.
  • Must possess good verbal and written communication skills and a professional attitude.
  • Ability to comprehend and adhere to company health and safety requirements.
  • With adequate training after being hired, be able to install and operate remediation systems including but not limited to pumps, filters, vessels, media change-outs, etc.
  • Shop work including but not limited to cleaning and maintaining shop and equipment, operating heavy equipment (forklifts, Vac-Trucks, etc.).
  • Ability to communicate effectively and utilize influence
  • Strong attention to details with the ability to analyze
  • Highly dedicated worker with sense of teamwork
  • Ability to thrive on hard work and demonstrated pride in solutions-oriented result
