POSITION AND UNIT OVERVIEW

  • Full time, 36 hours per week
  • Night Shift; 7pm - 7am

We are an 18-bed unit that opened August 2022 with state-of-the-art equipment, including a new Omnicell. The length of stay for our patients is typically 24 - 48 hours. Our patients are usually admitted from the Operating Room or Emergency Room for TIA workups (Transient Ischemic Attack), low acuity cardiac and chest pain pending testing, asthma, and post-joint replacement care. Our patient ratio is 1:6.

Our unit culture is one of longevity (100+ years of combined experience), flexibility, willingness to help each other succeed, and partnership. We have two Patient Care Technicians on all shifts. We foster work/life balance with schedules.

Minimum Requirements

License and Certification

  • Virginia or Compact Multi-State LPN License (Licensed Practical Nurse) in good standing
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

Education

  • Dip - Diploma Nursing
  • TS - Trade School Graduate Nursing

Job Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) functions under the supervision of an RN or Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) in the clinical setting, within the scope of practice dictated by the State Boards of Nursing. The LPN demonstrates professional and clinical knowledge relative to designated clinical practice setting in the delivery of direct patient care, adhering to the level of verified competency dictated by the site specific program. The LPN works as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support and communicate effectively with other licensed independent practitioners (Physicians, NP, PA) in collaboration while providing care and treatment for patients, clinical support and teaching for patient and family members, and adheres to the legal and ethical standards of nursing practice. Maintains all certifications and licensure relevant to clinical practice setting. LPN manages responsibilities of workload with accuracy, provides excellence in customer service, performs testing, medication administration and the implementation of nursing interventions and care plans to support a holistic approach to patient care. The LPN serves as patient advocate in the prevention of illness or disease.

Meets any requirements defined by specific specialty.
Behavioral Health - de-escalation and physical intervention training within 15 days of hire
Emergency Care - de-escalation and physical intervention training within 90 days of hire.
BLS required within 90 days of hire. Sentara Enterprises: 1 year healthcare experience required.
